The project “Statistics for Competitiveness in the Republic of Croatia” (STAT-KONK) is focused on the scientific analysis of various aspects of the competitiveness of the Croatian economy, employing advanced statistical methods and an interdisciplinary approach. The central goal of the project is to develop a comprehensive, empirically grounded framework for measuring, monitoring, and promoting the competitiveness of the Croatian economy through the application of advanced statistical techniques.
Building on fiscal, demographic, sectoral, and digital determinants, the project will, through eight interconnected research work packages, provide robust analytical tools and guidance for policymakers, enterprises, and citizens. The project will analyze the contribution of statistics to business processes, Croatia’s international position, the interaction between fiscal policy and sustainable development, and the effects of fiscal instruments on household resilience. Sectoral and aggregate competitiveness indices will be developed, the role of the housing market will be quantified, and housing and demographic factors will be linked to economic inequality. Special attention will be given to the digital divide and the potential of artificial intelligence as a fundamental prerequisite for the development of a digital society.
The team of eight researchers from four departments combines interdisciplinary expertise in statistics, computer science, international economics, and finance. The project outcomes will include a digital tool for enterprises, open data sets, and policy recommendations aimed at fostering economic vitality, social sustainability, and technological transformation in Croatia. The project findings will be publicly available and serve as a foundation for research and innovation strategies in Croatia and beyond.
The primary goal of the project “Statistics for Competitiveness in the Republic of Croatia” (STAT-KONK) is to develop a comprehensive, empirically grounded, and methodologically robust framework for measuring, monitoring, and enhancing the competitiveness of the Croatian economy through the use of advanced statistical methods, taking into account fiscal, demographic, sectoral, and digital factors in both national and international contexts.
